Iwata is firm on Nintendos strategy of bringing unique experiences to consumers who didnt request it, and seeing them say "this is the very thing I have been wanting to play". However, he concedes that Nintendo is not always able to keep up with the Joneses. Even though they produce great experiences internally, Nintendo must collaborate with second parties (think Retro Studios and Camelot Software Planning), in order to get enough original software out of the door. Iwata cites HAL Laboratory, Inc., developer of Kirbys Dream Land and Super Smash Bros., as a major player in keeping Nintendo in pace with market demand.
Iwata also admits to Nintendos shortcomings regarding the "field of networks". He believes Nintendo would fall behind the times if they were to try and fix this issue internally. Generating partnerships with outside companies may have led to a better online service around the launch of the Wii. Iwata further drives home the belief that Nintendo needs to specialise in creating great games, and leave things like online connectivity to external specialists. He concludes by apologising that he can only allude to "future developments" of the 3DS and Wii 2 in regards to the implications raised in addressing Nintendos vision for better online connectivity for the next generation.
