Nintendo plans five mobile games before 2017, Mario Kart producer in charge
Alongside all the fun of the financial reports from yesterday, Nintendo has revealed some more details about their mobile gaming plans. Speaking at the investor meeting today Satoru Iwata has stated that the game is working on just 5 mobile games to be released before 2017, with one due out this year.
While this seems like a small number, Iwata says its not without some thought. They plan to take their time with each game and make sure each game ‘is a hit’. To that end it’s also been revealed that Hideki Konno, the Mario Kart series producer is spearheading the development of these titles. “It should help you understand the level of commitment from Nintendo” Iwata told Japanese news outlet Sankei.
Kong certainly has the pedigree, what can he do with smartphones? Let us know the comments.

Nintendo has many options at this point, most of them being to screw over their mobile partner.
It’s never been in Nintendo’s interest to do something that would devaluate their IPs, so I’m expecting;
-variations of companion apps for their console games
-demos of their core games’ past catalog (allowing them to force takedowns of ripoffs of their IPs on both storefronts)
-some Tetris Attack equivalents
-general Nintendo-themed endless runners/other phone expected games rehashed before
-new IPs with a cost appropriate to its size
This’ll piss off their partner, who might make some unauthorised Nintendo branded games, to which gives Nintendo precedent to break out of their contract and force that vile backwash of clamoring for mobile games down those investors’ throats.
