A new handheld was being developed by Nintendo, but the DSs success got in the way

In a new interview Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has revealed that Nintendo had another handheld in the making but ultimately decided not to release it. In fact it’s not the first time Nintendo has done this. So why was it scrapped?

“In the history of Nintendo, there are several such examples," he says. "But when we are launching new hardware, the most important is thing is to sustain the momentum. If introducing new hardware won’t do anything to do that, well…"

Seem like Iwata was happy with the way the DS was going and a new platform would have stopped some of the momentum the system currently has. Iwata didn’t reveal any details on what the new product may have been, perhaps it may be seen again when the DS has had its day.
