He’s still in the movie, somehow.
Nintendo and Hollywood don’t have the best relationship, after Mario Bros who can blame them. So when Chris Columbus wanted Donkey Kong in Pixels he had to work for it.
Speaking to Wired he has said “I was excited because the script had a Centipede sequence and a Pac-Man sequence, but what the first draft of the script did not have was Donkey Kong”
It seems it took a lot of convincing to get Nintendo to let him in “After months and months of meeting with the board of Nintendo they agreed that we were going to treat Donkey Kong with respect and the proper gameplay, which was very important, and bringing Donkey Kong into the film was a slam-dunk for us.”
Pixels hasn’t been getting the best of reviews so far, but least we know the Donkey Kong action will be authentic. Hopefully this doesn’t sour Nintendo any further on Hollywood.
