‘Nintendo Online’ detailed, begins in 2018, costs $29.95AU a year
Update: Nintendo Australia has announced pricing for Australia and New Zealand on their website. It’s $29.95AU/$32.95NZ for the 12-month membership.
Original Story: Nintendo has announced more details about its online gaming service for the Switch, simply called ‘Nintendo Online’.
The service will now begin in 2018, not later this year as originally announced and will set you back $20US a year. You can also pay for a 1-month membership for $3.99US or a 3-month membership for $7.99USD. So what do you get for your money?
For your $20US a year you’ll get access to online multiplayer, the online lobby and voice chat app, Nintendo eShop deals and the ‘Classic Game Selection’ service. The voice chat app will still launch this winter, most likely alongside Splatoon 2 in a “limited version”.
The Classic Game Selection is “a compilation of classic titles with added online play, such as Super Mario Bros. 3, Balloon Fight and Dr. Mario”. So it could mean you’ll get more than one game a month like in the image, but we’re not entirely sure at this stage. But it would appear Virtual Console (or whatever they end up being called) now have online.
What do you think of the cost and service? Let us know in the comments.
So I’m guessing $39.95 for Aus then. Seems appropriate, but the online voice needs to be looked at, having to connect a headset to a phone and the console is ridiculous, reminds me of having the VC classic controller tethered to the wii remote. Why doesn’t Nintendo release a Bluetooth dongle and bluetooth headset with mic would make a better option.
