Nintendo offers up some “tips” for alleviating Joy-Con sync issues
Many have reported issues with the left Joy-Con either disconnecting or becoming unresponsive during normal gameplay. The day one update fixed some people’s problems but the issues still remains. For the record, we’ve not experienced the issue and could only get the controller to disconnect by moving more than 5 metres away. But it is happening for a lot of people.
Nintendo has issued support document listing some tips to avoid the issue or things that may be causing it, some are a little weird like not having it next to an aquarium or behind a TV. Also don’t put it near wireless speakers or a modem or wireless router.
If that fails Nintendo says to ‘turn off these devices’. Pretty sure your fish aren’t going to like it. With the day one update helping the issue somewhat we’re hopeful Nintendo will have this resolved shortly – they better.
- Ensure your console has the latest system update.
- Ensure the Joy-Con controllers are charged. How to
- Try to decrease the distance between the Joy-Con and the Nintendo Switch console.
- Ensure that the Nintendo Switch console is placed to minimize interference with the Joy-Con. It is best if the Nintendo Switch console is placed out in the open and that it is not:
- Behind a TV
- Near an aquarium
- Placed in or under a metal object
- Pressed against a large amount of wires and cords
- Within three to four feet of another wireless device, such as a wireless speaker or a wireless access point.
- Check for possible sources of interference and turn them off. Interference can be caused by devices, such as:
- Cell phones, laptops, tablets, etc.
- Wireless headsets
- Wireless printers
- Microwaves
- Wireless speakers
- Cordless phones
- USB 3.0-compatible devices such as hard drives, thumb drives, LAN adapters, etc.
- In most cases it will be enough to move these devices three to four feet away from the Nintendo Switch console and/or Joy-Con controllers. However, if you continue to experience this issue, please power these devices off while using the Nintendo Switch console.
“Near an aquarium” means that filter equipment might interfere, isn’t it?
Or is it that fish have been using the Bluetooth spectrum to co-ordinate a plan for world supremacy…
Water is not liked by the controllers, if heard if you try sitting a joycon inside a cup of water. It won’t work afterwards.
Hang on a moment…. Aren’t the joycons filled with ice cubes?
Maybe they’re mindful of people raging and throwing their Joycon at the Switch, and don’t want it to get water damage when they hit the aquarium instead.
Some have a myriad of wireless devices that it’s causing interference and nothing works properly.
I’ve had no joy con problems thus far (knock on wood), but I have a problem with wifi.
I have multiple access points setup at my house with an assortment of routers and modems (I’ve also got multiple ISP’s and connection types so that should one go down, I still have multiple options to get online, hence having multiple modems), but my switch refuses to connect to anything unless I re-enter my password to which ever device I’m trying to use.
It happens every time I turn on my console and choose a connection, despite all networks and passwords being saved. It’s really starting to peeve me off as I’ve even checked the saved passwords on the Switch and they are all correct after turning the console back on, yet it still refuses to connect until I re-enter them.
Anyone else having this problem?
