Nintendo of Europe media summit details

Many WiiWare and DSiWare games are set to be shown, as well as the announcement of the Connection Ambassador Promotion for Europe

Today in the UK, Nintendo of Europe is holding a summit for the media and developers. The theme of the event will be creativity and sharing, which Nintendo believes their download services support well.

LostWinds: Winter of the Melodias will be available hands-on for the first time in the event. Developer Kenji Eno will also be there to show his new WiiWare game, "You, Me, and the Cubes". The first in a series of 12 mini animations created by Aardman studios (of Wallace and Gromit fame) using Flipnote Studio on DSiWare will be unveiled, too.

The host of the event, Laurent Fischer (Managing Director, Marketing & PR of Nintendo of Europe), said that, "The market for video games is changing, reaching different people and in different ways. Wii and Nintendo DSi are also part of a new way to develop, deliver and experience games – by download."

Also being announced at the event is a "Connection Ambassador Promotion." The scheme, which is similar to one announced for Japan, starts in Europe this October, although we don’t know if we’ll share in it here. It allows people to become ’Ambassadors’ by helping others get their Wii connected to the Internet. Both the Ambassador, and the person being helped, will receive 500 Wii Points for each person connected. Once the Ambassador had helped a total of 20 people, they will reach the maximum total reward of 10,000 Wii Points. But wait, that’s not all! Once they have reached 10 people connected, they achieve a ’gold’ status, which allows them to download any first party NES game from the Virtual Console for free. Additionally, when they reach a total of 20 connections, the Ambassador is rewarded with ’platinum’ status which gives them access to every single NES, SNES, and N64 VC game! We’d certainly like to be able to help Wii users here, too, so hopefully Nintendo Australia will participate in the program as well.
