Well they didnt say no, but looks like the cat is out of the bag

Nintendo of Americas Director of Entertainment & Trend Marketing Amber McCollom told NintendoGal that Gamecube games will not be compatible with Wii U, but downloadable via the WiiWare service, at E3 earlier this year. Vooks, and several other sites, reported this earlier today.

However, an update on the story has seen NOA come out and give an official comment. They had the following to say:

"To clarify the capabilities of the Wii U system: As correctly stated, Wii U will not play Nintendo GameCube discs, however Nintendo has not made any announcements regarding downloadable content."

So, as always, it falls to the judgment of the internet to decide whether or not Ms McColloms statements were true or just misinformed. However, considering Nintendos past trend of re-releasing ports of games for the 3DS and Wii two or three generations after the originals, this will most likely end up happening anyway.

Im sure that, whether or not the games would be upscaled, re-jigged for motion control or otherwise, rabid fans are still going to throw their wallets at Nintendo.

Nintendo likes money, right?
