Nintendo Network will help “push forward” retail games sold digitally
Nintendo hasn’t forgotten that it said it would sell its full ‘packaged’ games online at some point, but still hasn’t offered any concrete information. Until now.
With Nintendo posting its first annual loss for the first time in 30 years, it’s finally come out and said something about its plans. You know those Nintendo investors. They need some soothing words.
Moreover, Nintendo will push forward with “Nintendo Network”, which is the network service for the “Nintendo 3DS” and the “Wii U”, and offers game experiences, which enable users to compete and interact with others all over the world, and provide add-on content by utilizing its network functions.
Furthermore, for the purposes of adapting to the changes in the environment surrounding the video game market and creating new business opportunities, Nintendo is envisioning the digital distribution of packaged software and is aiming at expanding the business.
So Nintendo will finally be catching up to everyone else in this regard. When that actually happens remains to be seen.
So they mean full retail games like Unchained Blades?
That would be good.
I was kinda hoping that Wii U will offer GameCube downloads, perhaps games that never got released here.
Me too. I’m also hoping for japanese releases that would seem too niche to be released at retail to be brought over to the west digitally. I doubt it will happen though. It will be interesting to see what full retail games do end up being put up in the eShop.
So where are we storing all these “packaged” games after downloading them? Unless Nintendo offers more than just a 16GB SD card then this service will be going the way of the Wii Store.
I think the Wii U will be using HDD via USB. Whether they’ll have their own proprietary hard drive, or just let anyone use any hard drive, well we’ll see.
That info will need to be revealed at E3!
