Retro Studios is currently on Nintendos love list at the moment and after Donkey Kong Country Returns, why shouldnt they be? Nintendo loves Retro so much that Nintendos US liaison Kensuke Tanabe has said that theyre hoping to find even more developers that are like the Metroid Prime and Returns developers:
"I work with other development partners, such as Next Level Games [who developed Punch-Out!!] in Vancouver and Monster Studios [who developed Pilotwings Resort] in Minneapolis. And they, much like Retro, really get our development philosophies. I want to find as many people as we can, as many great companies as we can to get involved with. I’m really looking for developers with a sense of craftsmanship."
Nintendos found some great talent out there, and with their guidance more developers could rise up to their ranks.
The real question, though, is what exactly have Retro been up to since Donkey Kong Country Returns?
