Nintendo hounded down Saints Row on 3DS

It has been revealed that Nintendo actively pressed THQ for a Saints Row for their hot upcoming handheld, and that the game was originally built as a download-only title for HD consoles

Amidst the bombardment of game titles and publishers that were announced at E3 to be partnered with 3DS came one big surprise – a Saints Row game for the 3D handheld. THQ’s Danny Bilson has told IndustryGamers.com that Nintendo were quite keen to have the very adult-focussed open world fun-fest on their upcoming 3DS. “Nintendo really wants to launch with a very balanced portfolio,” he says. “They really don’t want it to feel like a kiddie platform. They were very clear: they really wanted Saints Row on it.”

As it so happens, THQ were in the process of making a 3D-enabled Saints Row game for Microsoft’s Xbox Live Arcade service. When Nintendo came a-knocking, THQ already had something to offer them. “[T]he interesting thing about the game is we were already making it. We were already making it as our Xbox Live game and in 3D also. It’s designed for 3D already,” claimed Bilson.

Nintendo really seem to be pulling out all the stops to make the 3DS a system for everyone, and it’s delightful to see that mature gamers will be catered for with a dedicated Saints Row experience.
