Nintendo has sold 32.27 million Switch consoles

A solid holiday showing, but a reduced forecast

Nintendo has announced its 9-month financials results, and finally, we can find out how well the Switch did over the holiday period and if they’re on track for the 20 million.

The answer is… really well, and no they’re not.

Nintendo has now sold through a huge 32.27 million Switch units. That’s up from 22.86 million in the last reported period, meaning that over 9 million units were sold between September and December last year.

Despite the strong numbers, Nintendo has, however, dropped their forecast for Switch hardware units sold by the end of the financial year to 17 million, down from the previously predicted 20 million. Software sales predictions, however, have increased to 110 million units, up from the 100 million units predicted in last quarter’s briefing.

On the software side of things, there are a few new games on the million-seller list — including Super Mario Party, which has sold 5.3 million units, Pokemon Let’s Go, which has sold 10 million units, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which has sold a whopping 12.08 million units in the month of December alone. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has knocked Super Mario Odyssey off its perch as the best-selling Switch game, coming in at 15.02 million units, up a little over 3 million from the last reported period.

3DS sales continue to slow, with hardware sales increasing by just over a million units since September, but Labo is on the rise, with the Variety Kit now over 1 million units sold. In other news, Mario Kart Tour, Nintendo’s mobile approach to Mario Kart, has been pushed into the next financial year, now set to be released in US Summer 2019.
