There’s some big changes under the hood at Nintendo according to a new report by the Nikkei. The company is investing 30 billion yen (323 million AUD) into a new development facility in Kyoto. The new facility will house the console and handheld development teams which Nintendo is merging into one unit next month. It’s also right next door to the current Nintendo HQ in Kyoto.

Nintendo is doing this, according to the report in order to speed up development of new hardware and so the teams can work together, share ideas and just make better products. The move is a bid to increase the online functionality behind the  Wii U and 3DS, as well as sort of super future console.

The news of this new building and amalgamation of resources isn’t entirely new, it’s been known since 2011 when the Nikkei reported the first time. However knowing now that all Nintendo teams will have access to the same access to resources as Nintendo EAD. Previously other divisions of Nintendo such as SPD and Intelligent Systems have been working together away from the main head office.
