Nintendo and Indies sitting in a tree...
Nintendo are going all out to lure in new indie developers, letting them not just self-publish their titles on the Wii U, but also offering free Unity licences, according to this tweet by Brian Provinciano of Retro City Rampage fame.
Before, developers had to reach a set amount of sales before seeing any of the money, but self publishing abolishes that quota, allowing the Wii U eShop to better cope against competing downloadable game markets.
On top of that, the free Unity licence has lead to a noticeable increase in new indie games coming to the Wii U, with development being cheaper and easier. So it seems Nintendo are really valuing the power that indie development can bring to a console!
Super Thunder Blade and ESWAT: City Under Siege are the other two, they're just really…
Star Overdrive, Promise Mascot Agency, Pocket Bravery, Snow Bros. 2 Special and more.
At least ones from Nintendo.
