Nintendo eShop will join IARC says USK, Germany’s rating board

Looks promising.

The German ratings board, the USK has announced that it will be handling the ratings of apps and online (digitally sold) games through IARC. Currently only the Google Play Store and the Firefox Marketplace are supported but the USK has said that other partners, including the Nintendo eShop, Xbox Live store and PlayStation Network will join in the future.

If indeed Nintendo is planning to move the eShop to this rating system, it hopefully means since we share the same store as Europe this rating system could apply here.

We’ve reported on IARC before here on Vooks, IARC is the International Age Rating Coalition. It’s a internationally recognised rating system that hopes to align all international digital storefronts so items can be rated easily (and cheaply) and be sold almost anywhere.

In March the Australian Government said it would trial the rating system and that participating storefronts could use the system if they applied.
