Nintendo Download Updates (23/1) The opposite of epic
Below is the poorest example of what a weekly update could be for both the Wii U and 3DS. Apart from the sales on the 3DS which aren’t too bad there’s absolutely nothing redeeming here.
One Virtual Console game for the Wii U? One for the 3DS as well. Least that one we haven’t played possibly a million times before.
To make matters worse we miss out on Unepic thanks to our woeful classification system. You can switch to the European Wii U eShop to get it but of course it’ll only be too long before they close that loophole too.
With possibly thousands of games waiting in the wings for the Virtual Console the fact we get one is only made worse when there’s nothing else available.
At this point why even bother?
Wii U Virtual Console
Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels (Nintendo, NES) $6.50
3DS Virtual Console
Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom (Tecmo, NES) $5.20
3DS eShop Temporary Discounts
Fractured Soul (Endgame Studios) $4.99 until 6th February – 50% off
3D Game Collection (Joindots) $5.99 until 9th February – 50% off
AiRace Speed (QubicGames) $3.89 until 13th February – 40% off
Funfair Party Games (Joindots) $6.99 until 9th February – 50% off
Plus we’re missing out on an additional eight 3DS discounts that Europe gets this week, because the games weren’t even released here. =\
Epic fail. I was really looking forward to playing Unepic this weekend. Will we get it eventually? If not, boo hiss! Might be time to use that loophole, but my wallet won’t like me.
Ninja Gaiden lll will do though.
The loophole for the 3DS doesn’t work any more does it? It’s so annoying. Nintendo can’t do a thing right these days. If they don’t start doing Gamecube games this year on VC, it’s doubtful I will ever buy a Nintendo home console again.
That’s a little extreme, as far as I know Nintendo hasn’t even mentioned Gamecube in relation to Wii U once. We should see if they can even get N64 games to the platform this year before we start shooting for the awesomeness of the Gamecube.
Yes Nintendo does move slow and they do make changes that can be very infuriating at times but this is how they have always been and I mean ALWAYS!
Sad..
Considering Super Mario Sunshine would likely never make it onto the service (no WiiU controller sports analog shoulder triggers) I just don’t see a GameCube Virtual Console happening.
We played some paper mario 64 via wii mode on wii u over the holidays. I’m actually worried that Nintendo are having too much of an issue upscaling N64 to HD and we wont get any.
Such slim pickings…
Wii U is the last Nintendo home console I buy, they have cooked their goose. They are too slow + if Watch Dogs gets canned I guess I’ll put it up on Ebay and get a Xbox One or PS4. *sigh*
How many people buy new consoles to play 10 or 20 year old games anyway? Get an emulator or dust out the cupboard and plug in the the snes if you want to go retro, get on steam and buy $5 games if you want to play 2hr indies.
Buy a xbone, play station 4 and wii u and play all the best games if you can afford to.
My 2cents for nintendos perceived consoles bad performance. Bring out a “4K” console in about 2-3 years that is good percentage more powerful than the competitors latest offerings. People like bigger, faster and better, whether it’s a toaster, home console or sports car.
Get the third parties to make games for nintendo again because really, 3 quarters of games these days are not exclusive anymore. Then drip feed us their marquee games like they do now and dominate the market once again, because nintendos first party games will outperform and generate more profit than the limited first party competitors games.
