Nintendo Download Update: Oh my god, they’re having a fire… sale

Alright so no, Nintendo’s not really having a fire sale on the eShop, but there are not only some good games this week but some insanely cheap ones. Plus it’s Friday and we’ve writing serious stories all week, I want to write a silly one alright?

So what can you look forward to then? Let’s start with the 3DS which just has the one game in: Picross e2; if you like Picross you’ll like this one. The more exciting updates are on the Wii U though with a range of new and old games.

We doubted that it might even come, but Double Fine have managed to bring The Cave to the Australian eShop. It’s also quite good, we’ve been playing it all day. It actually came out last night, sorry about that. There’s also a demo if you’re not entirely sure about it. However it has Grog references, the world needs more Grog.

There’s also the 30c version of Balloon Fight (NES) to pick up, it’s the first in the Famicom’s 30th anniversary celebration sale. If you’ve got 30 cents left on your account, you might as well get it. Even if it is in 50hz.

So then, what are you picking up?

Wii U download software

The Cave (SEGA, Double Fine Productions, $19.99)
Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth (Ubisoft, $54.95)

No Trine 2 again. Well I downloaded the demo of the Cave. If I like it, I may just get that and forget about Trine 2 for good.

Pretty sure Balloon Fight was in 60hz. When you’re about to buy the game it shows a list of resolutions supported, both 480i and 576i are there along with 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p. Granted those last ones are simple up scaled resolutions, but it’s a promising sign for future games to be at their correct speed finally.

Bought The Cave after waiting up for Trine 2, which again proved pointless. I’ll wait for that to go on sale and then use my NNP points. Glad I did. It’s my 1st taste of games like this and it’s great. Love the dark humour. My son and I really enjoy the co-op. Be playing some more later on. I was surprised at how much I enjoy Balloon Trip on the Gamepad. I can see the Gamepad being where I’ll play most of the 8-bit classics. I’ll wait and see before I make a call on 16-bit 🙂

yeah I also picked up The Cave and so far I am really enjoying it! Virtual console is looking extremely promising, gamepad gaming is just designed for retro titles and I’m looking forward to making an enormous library of classic games… and yes bring on the SNES titles!!
