Nintendo Download Update (25/12) – Hunting for super sales
Here we are at the end of another year, our final Nintendo Download Update for 2014 and one of the biggest we’ve ever done.
While this week there are some great sales, there is actually new stuff on both consoles worth picking up too. For Wii U owners you should be considering both Duck Hunt and Kuru Kuru Kururin on the Virtual Console – terrific games. Super Mario 3D World has a discount too, if you’ve been on the fence waiting for a digital bargain on that one just remember that games of that caliber rarely go on sale.
Nintendo 3DS owners look into Bravely Default and escapeVektor on sale – among the many Level-5 titles on sale as well.
So for the final time this yeah, what are you buying?

Does it start on Christmas? Would love some duck hunt
Just in time to beat the Deluxe promotion end.
Oh how I wish I had bought more eShop credit at that EB Games sale.
So is Watch Dogs worth $60? Not too fussed about performance, as long as its playable..
Yeah, Watch_Dogs is a pretty decent game. But now I’m a little annoyed that had I waited a few more weeks, $60 is all I would have had to pay for it!
There isn’t much loading in the game, you have the initial loading, and then just when starting missions or dropping into someone else’s game. I’m not an expert, but I figure, the whole performance thing people complain about, is that the game is streaming in the rest of the city on the fly. I doubt the entire world of Watch_Dogs loaded in the initial time the game loads, or that it’ll all fit in the systems RAM all at once. This makes sense, as only the fastest cars cause this at high speeds.
Ubisoft games get discounted to about $25 fairly quickly.
Wait til then before buying any of them.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag was seriously $8.88 on Beat The Bomb not too long ago.
Yes, it’s certainly playable. I’ve clocked in about 60 hours so far (mainly due to its many, many optional side missions), and is probably my most played Wii U game to date, which surprises me as I’m usually not into these sorts of games. I ended up paying $69 on launch day (knowing very well that it’ll plummet to less than $40 by early 2015). If you’re eligible for the Digital Deluxe Promotion, however, you can effectively get the game for about $53.
It’s cheaper (and superior) on the other system; and I doubt that the Bad Blood expansion pack will be released on Wii U, but it can’t be helped thanks to Ubisoft’s love for screwing over their customers. But if you’re impatient (as I was) and you want it now, I think you’ll get your moneys worth.
There are times when the frame rate is silky smooth, and during aggressive police chases, the frame rate can dip quite significantly. Not so much that the game is no longer playable, but enough to affect your coordination. In all of my hours of gameplay, it made the console crash once (while Need For Speed Most Wanted U has crashed many, many times). As the Wii U build of Watch_Dogs is based on that of the PS3 and 360 versions, Watch_Dogs has a very “last gen” look and feel to it which it shares with the first Bayonetta game on Wii U (which also shows its last gen roots). I know the Wii U is capable of much better, but Ubisoft is notorious for releasing unpolished, poorly optimised games, and Watch_Dogs is no exception (apparently TETRIS of all games on PS4 is a buggy mess). Aside from the game crashing on me once, I haven’t encountered any noticeable bugs.
Now I won’t bang on about business ethics as I gave in on launch day despite Ubisoft’s abhorrent business practices, but all in all, the game is worth playing. Just don’t expect the same level of anarchistic/hedonistic freedom that games such as Saints Row and Grand Theft Auto provide.
Appreciate that write up, thanks! ill probably grab it.
