In this week’s IGN Nintendo Minute, Kaigler was asked whether a Nintendo Media Summit would be held in America soon. She says that she thinks consumers "have been pretty familiar with [their] holiday line-up" (which Nintendo probably feel will sell itself), and therefore Nintendo is "not planning to do another big summit for all media this year."
She believes that Nintendo has given both consumers and the media "ample opportunities to check out the games they want to see in advance of the holidays." For example, new titles such as New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Mario & Luigi: Bowsers Inside Story were featured at E3 and then recently at the Penny Arcade Expo, which also showcased The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. For the first time, a new WiiWare Pokémon game called Pokémon Rumble was also shown off.
In addition to the major trade shows, mini media summits have been held for individual games, like Metroid Prime: Trilogy, where writers got hands-on time with the game. For that particular game, Retro Studios also opened its doors to give a behind-the-scenes look at the game.
The interview has undoubtedly caused a stir in the Nintendo community. Fans have yearned for the release of a trailer for the next Zelda game on Wii, and the cancellation of the Summit makes this seem further and further away. However, Nintendo will be holding a Summit in Europe soon and will, too, attend the small-scale Kyoto Cross Media Experience early next month. Nintendo is also yet to reveal whether there will be an October conference in Japan. Fingers crossed.
