Update: Nintendo of America has provided the following statement to Kotaku US about Wii U production in the US as well.
We can confirm that as of today, all Wii U hardware that will be made available in the North American market for this fiscal year has already been shipped to our retail partners. We encourage anyone who wants Wii U to communicate with their preferred retail outlet to monitor availability.
Original Story: Nintendo has officially announced that production of the Wii U will soon be coming to an end.
The Japanese Wii U web page has updated with the following message “近日生産終了予定”, translated it means “production is scheduled to end soon”.
Last week rumours that the Wii U would stop being produced were quickly shot down by Nintendo, obviously it was true but just weren’t ready to officially announce it.
In October we learned that the Wii U had reached 13.36 million units sold around the world. That’s less units sold than even the GameCube.
RIP Wii U.
