Actual download numbers from Nintendo.
Nintendo has announced that Super Mario Run was downloaded 40 million times in its first 4 days of availability.
Super Mario Run was the top ranking free game in over 140 countries and in top grossing top 10 in over 100 countries as well.
The press release from Nintendo about the sales contains a comment from both Shigeru Miyamoto and Phil Schiller from Apple;
Miyamoto: “I’m happy to see a new Mario in the hands of so many people around the world. It might take time for everyone to fully understand what you get when you pay, but I know more and more people are deciding to buy it. Moving forward, I want an even wider range of people to experience the wonder of Mario games you can play one-handed and that can be given safely to children.”
Phil Schiller: “Super Mario Run has blown away existing App Store records, and set an incredible new record with an unbelievable 40,000,000 downloads in just 4 days. Myself and everyone at Nintendo want to offer our blessings to the tens of millions of iOS users having fun in the Mushroom Kingdom.”
Now the real question is, how many people actually paid for it in the end? We’ll have to wait until Nintendo’s next financial briefing for that one.
