Nintendo commissions the work of indigenous artists for charity

Limited custom indigenous artworks coming to Wii, literally

Nintendo has commissioned four of Australias best indigenous artists to paint indigenous artworks on the side of 8 Wiis for charity. The consoles will be auctioned off with all proceeds going to the Shalom Gamarada education programme. This scholarship programme aims to encourage indigenous students to complete their university education by providing financial support and has succeeded in making a significant impact in lowering the drop-out rate within the indigenous community.

If you happen to pick up one of these Wiis in the auctions, youll get it in a fancy custom acrylic case. That means you wont be able to play it, but never fear, youll get a regular old Wii to go along with it.

“Having these important artists create these pieces for Wii will not only raise much needed funds for indigenous education, it will also open new doors by raising awareness to people who would not normally be familiar with the work we do at Shalom Gamarada,” commented Jenny Hillman, Curator of Shalom Gamarada Ngiyana Yana.
