Goodnight sweet prince.

It was bound to happen eventually, Nintendo has updated their website in Japan to announce that the Wii will cease production shortly.

There’s no specific date given but seeing as the Wii Mini was never released there and there hasn’t been a Wii game from Nintendo in some time you knew it was going to happen. More than 100 million consoles out there will mean there’s always going to Wii consoles laying around should you want to buy another.

While it’s sad to see the end of the Wii officially come to pass, we now know that Nintendo are 100% devoted to the Wii U. It needs it.

Update: This message has been on Nintendo’s site since August 29th we’re told, it’s the first anyone has noticed it since then.
