Nintendo Australia has given us their yearly update of just how well the Nintendo DS and Wii are selling here in Australia. Unlike Microsoft or Sony, which chose to issue their press releases with nothing more than pure spin we actually get some numbers from Nintendo.
First up the Nintendo DS (all models) remains the best selling console for the 5th year running now with 520,000 of the little buggers selling in 2010. The Nintendo DS has now also passed 3 million units sold in Australia, making it the best selling console ever in the country (but we knew that already).
The Wii side of of things are looking impressive too with 420,000 units sold, thats higher than both the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. However it is lower than the previous year; the Wii is definitely slowing down. Nintendo holds a 58% market share for the Wii and the DS and 47% of games sold in the country were for Nintendo consoles.
The Nintendo DS sales remain impressive and no doubt will slow down next year with the launch of the Nintendo 3DS, however we think it shouldnt be too much. The Wii though, lets see what they do with that.
Introductory pricing from now until the end of January.
