Nintendo Australia release latest sales figures and they’re huge
In a little bit of pre-Christmas cheer, Nintendo Australia has released the latest sales figures for the Wii and DS hardware Down Under and the figures are looking very impressive. The Nintendo DS now has an install base of 1.5 million units, closing in on that every elusive 2.2 million figure for the PlayStation 2. The DS is now the fastest selling console to reach this milestone, doing so in 194 weeks. On the Wii front, hardware sales have now reached 750,000 units sold in 102 weeks, making it the fastest selling console to reach that mark. More inside However, Nintendo didnt stop there with the figures, as they also reported that 28,000 copies of Wii Music have been sold in its first week on sale. Now, for software in Australia, thats pretty impressive and even though it is no where near the install base, a game like Wii Music with its casual aimed marketing will sell for a while yet. Nintendo has also let us know that Wii Fit spent a period of 12 weeks following launch as the number 1 game.
Finally, last week (Week 46, 2008) was the biggest week ever for the Wii with 35,000 units sold. These numbers are not only impressive for Nintendo, but the Australian video game industry as a whole. Numbers like were seeing for the DS and Wii have never been seen before and look continue to grow.

Australia, 24 November, 2008 Nintendo confirms its release line up for the Christmas period, while figures from GfK Australia confirm that Wii and Nintendo DS both continue to perform well.
Independent market research organisation GfK Australia confirms that Nintendo DS currently has an install base in Australia of more than 1.5 million units*, making Nintendo DS the fastest selling console to reach this milestone in 194 weeks. The key products from Nintendo for Christmas on Wii will be Animal Crossing: Lets Go To The City, Wii Speak accessory, Wii Music, Disaster: Day of Crisis; and for Nintendo DS, KORG DS-10 Synthesizer, Kirby Super Star Ultra and Pokmon Ranger: Shadows of Almia.
Animal Crossing: Lets Go To The City, available 4 December, sees players step into another world as they customise their own town, house and even themselves! Wii Music, available now, lets players embrace their inner musician with more than 60 instruments from around the world and more than 50 songs. Select the instruments you would like to play, get your family and friends involved, or play on your own. Use your Wii Remote and Nunchuk as though you were playing real instruments. Wii Music offers a realistic drum kit, when used with the Wii Balance Board from your copy of Wii Fit. Mimic playing a drum kit, simply by placing the Wii Balance Board on the floor as foot pedals, and by using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk as drum sticks.
