One of our major complaints about living in Australia is that we have to wait for games to get released here. While Wii games pose more of a problem due to the disk media and regions, the DS is region free and since Australia is an English speaking country, we should have no problem getting games sourced from the US and then sold here, right? Well while not the case in the past, Nintendo Australia is speeding up the process.

More Inside Australians have had to wait for 18 Months for Phoenix Wright, 6 Months for Elite Beat Agents, just to name a few. It seems that the niche games for the Nintendo DS which we all want will be on their way here a lot sooner.

According to a report on IGN AU, Nintendo Australia has confirmed that since the install base of the Nintendo DS has reached “”critical mass”” down under, the wait for those niche games and all DS releases in general will be shorter.

Basically what it comes down to now is that there is enough Nintendo DS in Australia that any game released has a market. Before it was a too great a risk to release something such as Phoenix Wright or a game that was too niche, a new and/or strange IP.

Nintendo often gets bagged for delaying titles, but its great to see that the success of the DS hasnt gone unnoticed and that Nintendo Australia will now allow great games like Elite Beat Agents to not go unreleased in Australia or be delayed so much that everyone has imported it or interest has squandered.
