Viva Group, a Hong Kong-based manufacturer has rolled out a new style of casing called the Eco-Box which considerably reduces CO2 emissions in production. Apparently, the Eco-Box is already being used by movie studios for DVDs, but now it has begun appearing in the videogames industry.
Microsoft was the first to introduce its ‘green cases’ for the Xbox 360 in 2008. The new Eco-Box cases weighed 47 grams as opposed to the original cases which weighed 66 grams. Now, Nintendo has joined the bandwagon, and below is what the new Wii game cases will look like.
The Viva Group states that the new cases use 20 percent less plastic and create 31 percent less CO2 emissions, have "no real difference in quality or performance" when compared with standard packaging, and save on shipping costs.
There’s been no word on whether the cases will be distributed here, but let us know what you think of them.
