They work in up to three different games so far, too!
While Nintendo also announced some brand new amiibo to join the already growing roster of Super Smash Bros. characters, they also announced a brand new collection that would be released as soon as March this year. These figurines feature Mario and his co-stars in a more typical appearance but will work with a few games.
First of all, characters who appear in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U or 3DS such as Mario, Peach, Luigi, Yoshi or Bowser can have these new figurines used in place of the Super Smash Bros amiibo. Prefer Peach’s look with this figurine? You can use her in Smash Bros instead of the one released in the first wave of amiibo.
Toad is a special little one – using him in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker will unlock a new mode where Toad has to hunt a retro styled 8-bit rendition of himself throughout levels. These new modes will be available via a patch later this year.
Of course, these figurines will also be compatible with Mario Party 10 when it releases in March too. Using them, along with any other characters who appear in Mario Party 10 (Rosalina, for example) will allow players to unlock new game pieces and game boards to play on.
Mario Party 10, the Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker amiibo update and the Super Mario Collection of amiibo figures will all be released on March 21st here in Australia.
