Will also be assisting third party developers in the region.
Nintendo has been working well with indies on the 3DS and Wii U for years now, a far cry from the dark WiiWare days. Today, they step up their game even further with a new venture with Digipen, they’re a ‘video games and digital media university’ which has campuses all over the world, today’s focus is on the Singapore one.
Nintendo and Digipen will create ‘Digipen Game Studios’ which will discover and publish new video games developed in Singapore and bring them to Nintendo 3DS. This studio will also work with third parties already in the region to create games for the 3DS and possibly other systems later on.
There will also be a Digipen Singapore Conference later in the year in Singapore. Here local developers will be able to submit their game concepts to Digipen Game Studios with the possibility of that game idea ending up on the Nintendo eShop. They hope to have selected 10 games from Singapore by next year.
It’s great to see Nintendo supporting and putting its backing behind a project such as this. It will be interesting to see what kind of games come out of this and what kind of games the studio will be helping on.
Now, if we could only have something like this happen in Australia as well!
