Nintendo of America puts the final nail in the AM2R coffin
While Nintendo effectively ended any easy possibility of downloading AM2R in August, it’s now moved on the creator itself and issued him with a DMCA notice. Milton Guasti has officially announced he will stop updating the game and issuing new releases.
Previously Nintendo just went after the various download sources for the game, which meant the game would have been harder to find but Guasti continued to work on it and update it even after this.
Here’s the official announcement from the official blog;
Nintendo of America, Inc. has filed a takedown request under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). I received the request on my personal email, so I’m complying with their requests.
There will be no more AM2R updates, and no more releases under any platform.
Thank you for the support during all these years.
Luckily for those who still have the game you’ll be able to continue to play it.
Pull the game, retool the sprites and call it a fan sequel to Axiom Verge 😀
Simple solution is don’t use someone else’s intellectual property when making awesome fan games.
Such a fantastic game. Shame Nintendo didn’t get behind it. I actually bought Zero Mission off the back of massively enjoying Project AM2R.
