Smuggled, probably stolen Nintendo 3DS stolen from Chinese factory

A Nintendo 3DS unit has been ’acquired’ from a Chinese assembly plant by an unknown party with photos of the handheld displayed for all an sundry on a Chinese blog. The person responsible has bravely (or perhaps foolishly) taken a bunch of snaps of the system, although it doesn’t appear to include final software on the hardware.

The unit doesn’t appear to be completely finished as there is no backing plate on the system leaving the battery clearly visible. The aesthetics of the unit are identical to the demo units exhibited at E3 and hardly any additional details on the 3DS hardware were smuggled out with the device.

All that has been potentially learned is that the Nintendo 3DS has 96mb of memory built into the unit, but how much is available to developers is still a secret.

The Nintendo 3DS was delayed last year until February so the still in-production system has been floating around in the depth of a Chinese factory. Looks like someone just couldn’t wait another month.

Update: Nintendo 3DS leak in video form!
