With no solid details from Nintendo Australia, were left to speculate

Overnight, Nintendo America and Europe revealed everything about the Nintendo 3DS for those regions, including some nice features like a universal friend code and 3D content for Europe. But here in Australia we have nothing, well apart from a vague March date. So we’re here to fill in the gaps with healthy speculation.

The Nintendo 3DS will launch in the US on March 27th for US$249, Europe gets it on March 25th for an open price. Now we could just directly convert those prices to AU dollars but like most things in life, things aren’t that easy.

We’ll go on precedent and what has come before it – The Nintendo Wii for example in the US in 2006 launch for US$250, just like the 3DS is. We ended up getting the Wii for $399. Now in 2006, the economy was different but we still think a price around (or just below) $399 is a reality we all have to face for the Nintendo 3DS in Australia.

For the release date? We think we’ll be lucky on that at least and get it on the 24th. However, the 31st is the next Thursday after and still falls within Nintendo’s financial year.

We now turn toward Nintendo Australia, they know what they have to do – let’s just hope we’re not waiting too long.
