The wait is over, Aussies go into the third dimension on March 31st

Nintendo Australia has tonight announced the launch details of the Nintendo 3DS for Australia in a huge event in Sydney. The brand new system which delivers 3D graphics with out the need for special glasses will go on sale in Australia on March 31st for the recommended retail price of $349. The system like the rest of the world will be available in Cosmos Black and Aqua Blue.

Nintendo also revealed tonight that the Nintendo 3DS shop will also launch in Australia in late May, joining the wait with the rest of the world. Also revealed is that Australia will be getting free wireless hot spots to use the 3DS, although no other information as to where the hotspots will be was announced – expect that in the coming months. Spotpass will not be available at launch as well, more on that as we hear more.

Launch titles for day one are still up in the air with Nintendo sticking the Launch Window speak. This means that some 30 games will be available between now and early June. Pilotwings Resort, Nintendogs + Cats and Steel Diver all fall in this window. Well know more about whats hitting on day one closer to the release date.

Nintendo will also offer 3D movies and movie trailers some time in the future, though no timeline was given on that.

Our friends in New Zealand will get their hands on the Nintendo 3DS on the same date, but for $453NZ dollars. Both the Australian and New Zealand 3DS units come with a system, charging cradle, AC adapter, extra stylus, 2GB SD card and 6 different AR cards. The 3DS will come with the Mii Creator, Face Raiders and AR Games pre installed.
