Nintendo Europe has announced that is has sold 303,000 Nintendo 3DS consoles on it’s opening weekend (three days). 113,000 of those were sold in the United Kingdom and 50,000 (two days) of them Germany. The figures account for only a two day period over the weekend, expect more in-depth sales reports to hit later.
That UK figure makes it the most successful hardware launch for Nintendo in the country. The previous record holder was the Wii on 106,000 from back in 2007. It didn’t come close to the PSP’s overall record for 185,000 though. But that figure was over four days, not the two for the Nintendo 3DS.
We’re yet to see how well the Nintendo 3DS has done in Australia, a quick survey of stores will show that the system is still available to be found if you’re willing to look around. But we wouldn’t call it a sell out, unless anyone wants to correct us of course.
Nintendo America has said that it’s day-one sales of the Nintendo 3DS were higher than any other previous Nintendo console.
