Nintendo 3DS home screen themes launch with latest 3DS firmware update
It’s October and as promised Nintendo has launched the Nintendo 3DS home screen themes and theme shop. The update just went live a moment ago unlocking access to the store and some free simple themes as well.
The themes were announced a couple of months ago and allow you to complete change the Home Menu sounds, icons and colours to different… well themes.
Included in the update are some simple themes for free, these include a red, blue, yellow, pink and black theme.
The more advanced themes which entirely re-skin the home menu are available from the Theme Shop and the ones at launch include;
Character Themes
- Mario Characters (Stamped Felt)
- Mario Characters (Branded Wood)
- Hanafuda
- Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
- Might Mushrooms
- Completely Yoshi
- Completely Peach
- Completely Luigi
- Completely Mario
- NES Jumping Mario
Geometric Patterns
- Stars (Black & Gold)
- Polka Dots (White & Gold)
- Polka Dots (Black and White)
- Stripes (B/W Horizontal)
- Chess Board
Themes start from $1.30 for geometric patterns and go up to $2.60 for the more advanced character themes.
You can now also take a screenshot of the home menu and share off your collection with the use of the Y button. Holding it in conjunction with the L and R buttons allows you to snap the home screen.
The update also adds and image share menu icon under the brightness menu for easy sharing of screenshots on Twitter and Facebook.
Another cool feature in the update is that you get notification previews from the home menu now, so you can decide whether to launch notifications based on the subject of the new messages rather than simply a pulsing blue icon.
Probably one of the first useful updates to Nintendo software
