Nintendo has announced a special Ambassador program to coincide with the price drop. Dubbed, ’Nintendo 3DS Ambassador Program’, 3DS owners who bought the system at the launch price of $349 prior to the price drop on 12th August will be able to download a series of NES and GBA games as a way of compensation for buying at the higher price.

From 1 September, Ambassadors will be able to download 10 NES Virtual Console games for free prior to their release to the general public. Titles include Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Jr., Balloon Fight, Ice Climber and The Legend of Zelda. Nintendo also announced that the paid versions will be ’updated’ when they release later in the year, and that these versions will also be available for free to Ambassadors. Perhaps these are slated to become 3D classics too?

Secondly, 10 GBA games will be provided to Ambassadors throughout the rest of the year, absolutely free. Including Yoshi’s Island, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Metroid Fusion, WarioWare Inc.: Minigame Mania and Mario vs. Donkey Kong, they will be exclusive to Ambassadors; Nintendo currently has no plans to release them to the general public.

So, what are you planning to do? Pay the extra $100 (or less) in the next two weeks, or grab a 3DS on the cheap? Your call.
