New Super Luigi U dated for Australia, also coming to retail

In a pretty green case, with a new playable character too

During tonight’s Nintendo Direct, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata shared some more details about New Super Luigi U, the upcoming expansion for New Super Mario Bros. U.

As this is the year of Luigi, Mario won’t be appearing in the game, leaving a hole in the available multiplayer characters. This hole has been filled by Nabbit making a reappearance. First showing up in New Super Mario Bros. U, Nabbit was an enemy that you had to chase down and catch after he stole some items from Toad. Now he is returning as a playable character with a difference.

Nabbit will have the same jumping and running abilities as Luigi and the Toads, but he is unable to use any of the power-ups. The trade off for his lacking in extra abilities will be invulnerability, meaning new players to the series can play through the multiplayer mode without taking damage from enemies.

As mentioned in the previous Nintendo Direct, the game will feature 82 stages, reworked with new enemies and obstacles. Originally slated to only be available as a DLC pack, New Super Luigi U will now have a retail release for a limited time. This is good news for people who don’t have New Super Mario Bros. U or those without an internet connection

The expansion is set for release on June 21th on the Nintendo eShop and a month later on July 27th for retail in Australia for $59.95

Video games are not my forte. I'm not very good at video games. If you walked up to me in the streets and exclaimed “Hey! You suck at video games!” I would not call you a liar. They are, however, one of my favourite things and classic Nintendo titles are what I like best. Sure I haven't finished New Super Mario Bros. U yet and I've had the game since launch, but that doesn't mean I don't get the same fuzzy feelings as you when I play it.
