A new eight player, top-down, cartoon style racing title is headed to WiiWare from Konami’s mobile phone division. Driift is a fast-paced racing game that allows eight players to race each other in local multiplayer using a combination of Wii-remotes, classic controllers and nunchucks.

The game features twelve different tracks based around four themes and a selection of 32 vehicles in four categories. The game also features seven different game modes including single-player and multi-player championships, team race and VIP mode. VIP mode seems the most interesting as it requires each team to elect one player each as the VIP, and then both teams must protect their VIP while trying to destroy the opposition’s.

Konami European Marketing and PR Director Martin Schneider said the European development studio was created to make games for mobile phones, but after a successful start, they have now moved on to other formats.

“”This WiiWare title offers a new approach in a more traditional console business and we are looking forward to this download title and further contributions from our European development studio,”” Schneider said.
