New Nintendo 3DS firmware brings stability, patched exploits

We love the stability part.

The latest Nintendo 3DS firmware update is here and along with it comes a raft of stability.

Boring right? Well luckily or unluckily for you (depending on your point of view) there’s some more changes behind the scenes that do away with some exploits that have snuck into Nintendo 3DS’ web browser.

Firstly, the update blocks a hack that was allowing players to bypass the micro transactions in the newly released Pokemon Shuffle. People were able to alter their SD card and use the web browser to make all of the items in the games’ store free.

The other patches blocked the ability to inject other Game Boy Color ROMS into other Virtual Console games and most disappointingly the one to allow games from other regions to be played.

You’ll need to do the update to get back on the eShop or use any of the systems online functions, looks like the system is again ‘stable’ until the hackers find a way around these things.

None of these hacks ever worked on the New Nintendo 3DS because it uses a slightly different web browser.
