The latest issue of Famitsu shows off a ton of new info on Super Mario Galaxy 2

Famitsu magazine’s latest issue features a new feature on Super Mario Galaxy 2 which has revealed a lot of new information including first details on the ‘story’ of the game. The most interesting is new screens of a 2D portion of the game in the Mushroom Kingdom, however while it’s 2D looking like New Super Mario Bros the world looks much more ‘realistic’ and detailed. We have to say, the Mushroom Kingdom has never looked better. We’re not sure if this portion is just introductory scene or actual gameplay.

Information relating to the story of the game (however little that may be) has also been revealed, here is a translation of what the magazine says (thanks to NeoGAF);

This is one more stardust fairytale. Only once in a hundred years does stardust fall on the mushroom kingdom. As such, Peach invites Mario to the castle to watch. On his way over, Mario spots a mysterious light. He cautiously approaches it, and finds… a small, lost baby star. The star – Baby Chico – follows Mario to the castle, but what is waiting for them there is…

This Baby Chico is not only a new character but also a new gameplay mechanic in the form of the spin attack it performs.
