New Link To The Past 2 Details, The Dark World Returns

Eiji Aonuma, known for his work as director slash producer of the Zelda series, has shared a few details on the A Link to the Past sequel, due to release on the 3DS late this year.

The dual world theme from the original SNES is making a return, but no info just yet on how the Light and Dark worlds will interact just yet. Aonuma also said the Phantom Ganon boss battle from Ocarina of Time is the main inspiration for the wall drawing Link we saw in recent footage.

The new Zelda title also looks to be taking full advantage of the 3D effect, properly letting the player gauge things like depth, height and even just enhancing the top down view from the original game.

Excited for the first original Zelda game on the 3DS? Or maybe just happy to see A Link to the Past get some love? Tell us in the comments!

Do we know yet if the overworld is the same as ALttP? If so, how is the dark / light world going to work? If that is the case, then all of the locations will be the same, all of the dungeons will be in the same places, and all of the secrets will be in the same places. If the magic mirror makes a return, then using it would reveal the same secret caves etc.

Surely that won’t be the case, as much of what makes Zelda brilliant is the exploration and discovery. I’m hoping it will initially seem to be the same world, but after the first few dungeons we discover that the overworld extends far further than ALTTP, with all new areas and secrets. Regardless, I’m stoked to see a return of the top-view classic Zelda formula I grew up with.
