Let's all get digital

Bandai Namco have been extremely strong supporters of the Switch since it launched last year, with many of their IPs making an appearance on Nintendo’s hybrid console. But one of their biggest franchises has yet to make the jump — that changes next year.

The latest issue of Japanese magazine V-Jump has revealed Digimon Survive, an all new strategy RPG coming to Switch and PS4 sometime in 2019 in Japan. Details are fairly scarce at the moment, but we do know that it blends strategy RPG and visual novel elements, with choices in conversation affecting the story and even evolutions in battle. The story revolves around 8th grader Takuma Momotsuka and his partner Digimon Agumon as they work together to find their way back home after getting lost in another world.

It’s been a long time since Digimon made an appearance on a Nintendo console, and even longer since a Nintendo Digimon game was localised for the West, with the most recent one, Digimon World Championship, releasing on the Nintendo DS back in 2008. There’s no word yet on if Digimon Survive will release outside of Japan, but given that recent games on other platforms, such as Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth, released to moderate success in the West, it’s a safe bet that Digimon Survive will make the jump too.

We’ll be sure to update you on any new developments as they happen.
