New details and screens of Spore DS
While we have seen Spore on the PC for years the DS version has been an enigma hiding in the shadows, but now this is no longer the case as new pictures of the game have emerged. In a new interview with Lucy Bradshaw, executive producer of Spore, it has been revealed that, thankfully, the Nintendo DS version of the game has been built specifically for the system. The decision for the DS was to take a unique approach to the system with the developers taking a look at the platform and deciding what was best to focus on for this version of the game. More inside The game starts out similar to the PC version you start as a little species on the planet and as you explore that planet you encounter other species. You can eat them, befriend or get into combat with them and in doing so you gain DNA points which allow you to evolve your creature. The general feel of the game may be the same but the content on the DS is completely different.
Another feature present in the Nintendo DS version is that with your created creature can be shared over local wireless and over the internet. Creatures will move from your game to your friends and become computer controlled. The developers call this pollination and its about creative sharing so its not multiplayer but more like an advanced Bark Mode from Nintendogs.
The art style for the game on the Nintendo DS will be completely different with a flat paper look chosen to best take advantage of the system (think Paper Mario). The developers believes this look will allow the game to appeal to a wider audience.
