Nintendo has announced that NES Remix 2 will include a brand new mode, but it’s inspired by a very historic Nintendo event. Championship Mode is inspired by the Nintendo World Championship event which took place in the US in 1990.

Championship Mode challenges you to get the highest cumulative score in three specific games using a multiplier-based scoring system. This new mode however requires some save data from NES Remix to participate. Here’s how Nintendo explains it;
With the Championship Mode line-up comprising of Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3 and Dr. Mario, players will take on a series of three successive score-based challenges in these games to achieve a cumulative total score. In addition, your score can also be posted to Miiverse, so you can compete with friends and other players.
NES Remix too naturally features another round of crazy mashups as well in addition to this new mode and Nintendo have included Super Luigi Bros. It’s Super Mario Bros, but with Luigi and played in reverse from the right of screen to left. It is the last Year of Luigi title.
