More exclusive games planned for the new 3DS models

Good news, Xenoblade is coming to the Nintendo 3DS. The bad news is you’ll need the New Nintendo 3DS or Nintendo 3DS XL to play it.
You might need the new console for other games too.
Stuck at the bottom of the New Nintendo 3DS page is a warning that games are now in development for the New 3DS and the New 3DS only. There are also games that will work on both and run better in the new console as well. Old games however are locked to the old specs and won’t run any better on the new system.
So then, fragmentation of the user base. Even worse so because the new consoles have new buttons and a second analogue nub. What say you? Big problem or not so much?

Certainly wasn’t expecting this. Iwata hinted that he saw value in the Apple model of upgrading hardware regularly while keeping backwward compatibility so it could possibly work the gaming industry but it could also backfire. Either way most Nintendo fans like myself will want a NEW 3DS.
Will these games not work with the old dual stick add on?
I was pretty surprised by this announcement, but upon reflection this is very much a Nintendo thing to do and harkens back to the Game Boy Color days…
