More Epic Mickey details emerge
Oswald the Rabbit leads a dark world of forgotten Disney creations seeking revenge
While the Wii-exclusive Epic Mickey was finally announced yesterday, very little information about the game came with the reveal, in an attempt to draw out the information over this month. Eurogamer, however, has heard some key details about the title from a source close to Disney.
The games story centres around Disneys forgotten creations, these being their characters, little-known cartoons and rides. These have all been thrown into a dark void when people no longer cared about them, full of old faulty machines and resentful inhabitants. This sounds very much like the concept art found earlier this year.
Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Disneys first cartoon character, has been ruling over this dark place, but his long-brewing jealousy of the fame of Mickey Mouse (who was made as a replacement character for Oswald after Disney lost his rights) has finally resulted in a plan of revenge. He lets forth The Phantom Blot, one of Mickeys long standing enemies, to destroy the cartoon world.
Poor Mickey is left to save the Disney universe after The Blot contaminates the world with a sticky black ink, causing all colours to run and fade. To do this, he has to make use of many art tools—like paintbrushes, erasers, thinner and pencils—to restore the world.
This makes for the reasoning of the game being Wii-exclusive, as you will be utilising the Wii Remote to mend bridges with his brush, look through walls after using thinner and clearing debris with the help of your erasers.
The game is said to be as much about thinking as artwork, with plenty of exploration thrown in. Additionally, the source claimed that Mickey will be receiving "his first makeover in years," going on to explain it to be the reason we havent seen his face yet.
