E3 2013: Monolith Soft’s “X” gets a brand new trailer
X, the new RPG for Wii U being developed by Monolith Soft, will feature a vast open world and mechs for travel (and presumably combat), Satoru Iwata announced earlier tonight. The graphics also look pretty fantastic, not to mention futuristic.
X, which is a tentative title, has been influenced by the style of Xenoblade Chronicles and the experience gleaned while Monolith Soft was working on it, said Iwata. One of the main goals of X is to feature “seamless exploration,” which could mean anything from shorter load times, to grand camera angles, to anything in between.
As mentioned earlier, apart from familiar land travel, X will also allow the player to pilot giant mech suits in the game, on ground or in the sky. Mechs are cool, so that’s neat.
We also speculate that some form of multiplayer may be involved, as we spotted “2P’, “3P”, and “4P” tags in the video.
Good to see that Wii U is getting its first massive open world RPG, which were largely only seen very late into the Wii’s life cycle.
The multiplayer thing isn’t new. That was in the first trailer earlier in the year as well.
