The latest and one thousandth edition of Famitsu Magazine has hit Japanese shelves and as a apart of the celebrations they have spoken with Shigeru Miyamoto on the past, present, and future of Nintendo and more. The interview touched on a lot of things but the most interesting was Miyamotos disappointment in the GameCube controller. Saying that despite it being a good controller it wasnt going to bring in a new audience like the Wii Remote or Nintendo DS has. More inside It was the realisation that despite the Zelda franchises growing appeal outside of Japan the market in Japan was shrinking and thus something had to be done. The development of the Nintendo DS was directly aimed at doing this and it did so with two different things. . The first was ‘something Mom won’t hate.’ The only way to stop this is to sit the parent down and play the game but with traditional controls this was hard.

The second change was making games help out in schools, this lead to the Japanese/kanji dictionary in Japan as well as other educational software. Miyamoto was determined to make these games even if they didnt sell.

However those worried about classic Nintendo franchises need not worry as Miyamoto said. “”I’m making ’em all.””
