Miyamoto talks at Digital Contents Expo

Nothing was ground-breaking in his talk at the Digital Contents Expo, but a few little things of interest did pop up

Shigeru Miyamotos keynote to open Asiagraph—one of the subevents of the Digital Contents Expo—has now come and gone, and while there werent any surprise Nintendo announcements involved, there was still some interesting content.

The most amusing out of everything was the dislike of the renaming of Nintendos latest console to Wii by Nintendo of Europe and Nintendo of America. Miyamoto said that they both hated it because of a certain similarity between it and a common slang word for urine. He thinks that many people feel natural with the name, although as we all know the jokes still havent ended concerning it. He also mentioned that he believes the Wii is going back to basics in gaming, which would presumably mean the fun centred games of old.

The original Legend of Zelda title for the NES was touched on, too. Miyamoto said that Nintendo wasnt so happy with aspects of the title originally, like the open world nature. According to him, they thought that players would have trouble knowing what to do next. This is certainly one element that has been addressed with more recent games in the series, which have featured different help systems like guide NPCs.

Finally, we now know Kirbys original name; the pink puff-ball was called "Tinkle Popo". We couldnt help thinking about the Wii naming information he touched on earlier when we heard this.
