Miyamoto talks 1080° Snowboarding and franchise preservation

In the latest issue of the Official Nintendo Magazine, Shigeru Miyamoto touched on franchise preservation and the classic extreme sports title, 1080° Snowboarding.

When queried about a possible return of series, Miyamoto instead reflected on the approach taken to the franchise and how it was important to build and maintain videogame brands.

“I guess we could have looked at different approaches with 1080 on N64 and tried to find ways to extend that franchise or build it in a way so we could maintain that brand until now… but it’s always a difficult decision in terms of which ones to choose,” he said.

The most recent 1080° was in the form of the 2008 N64 Virtual Console re-release. The original game was released on the Nintendo 64 in 1998, and this was followed by 1080° Avalanche in 2003 for Nintendo GameCube.

Let us know in the comments if you would like to see the return of 1080° and even Wave Race.

Never really cared about 1080 Snowboarding so much. I would kill for a WiiU Waverace, though, imagine how good the water would look…hnnnnng.

I enjoyed 1080 when I first played it on a friends 64, but ten years later when I downloaded the VC rerelease I couldn’t really get into it. It just seemed a bit clunky and hadn’t aged all that well. I do agree that a new wave race would be amazing though!
